At Parker & Pennington Dentistry, we want to help our patients who need tooth replacement choose the best option for their needs and lifestyle. For some of our patients, dental implants are an excellent choice. If you are unfamiliar, dental implants provide a permanent base for replacement teeth. Over time, the prosthesis fuses with the jawbone to create a permanent and lasting solution. Patients love dental implants because they not only restore the function of the teeth, but they are also aesthetically pleasing and blend in beautifully with the natural teeth. We wanted to answer some of the most common questions that we often get about dental implants.
Can dental implants be completed in one office visit?
- Dental implants require multiple office visits. During the first part of the process, the implant is placed in the jawbone. Following this step, there is considerable healing and waiting time to see if the placement of the implant is successful. After a few months, we can move on to the rest of the treatment. Treatment time from start to finish varies by patient but lasts for a few months.
How do you care for dental implants?
- Caring for dental implants is extremely simple. It is the same as caring for your natural teeth. All you need to do is brush and floss your teeth as normal. We also recommend maintaining regular oral hygiene examinations in our office.
Are there any food restrictions?
- There are no food restrictions. In fact, patients who get dental implants are amazed at how they are able to enjoy foods they may have been avoiding for years. Patients with implants are able to bite and chew with ease.
